invites you to the lecture:

Rethinking Kemalism: Foucauldian attempt to understand the decline of Kemalism in Turkey

Speaker:

Mertkan Hamit

PhD candidate, Legal and Political Theory

 Abstract:

In this lecture my aim is to introduce Foucauldian approach of power and interrogate Kemalist interpretations of power. In my analysis, I am going to question the declining power of Kemalism in Turkey from a Foucauldian perspective and my primary aim is to deconstruct mainstream narratives of power where the Kemalist decline can be explained beyond the Kemalist versus Islamist dichotomy. In this analysis, I am going to provide rather alternative way of reading the history and draw broader conclusions for the debates on the ways that we approach to the power.
